There’s Still Time to Sponsor a Booth at “Carnival of Thanks”
New Haven families are invited to celebrate the District’s tremendous range of after-school activities – and help raise funds to preserve the programs – at the New Haven Boosters Association’s “Carnival of Thanks” Sunday (Nov. 6) in the Logan High parking lot.

“Carnival of Thanks”The New Haven Schools Foundation, which helped save after-school activities for 2011-12 by donating $100,000 to help pay stipends for coaches and advisors, formally presented its check to the District before James Logan High’s homecoming football game last Friday. And the New Haven Boosters Association, which is raising half of the money, will celebrate the contribution with a “Carnival of Thanks” on Sunday, Nov. 6, in the Logan parking lot.

Logan Graduate Wins Fulbright Scholarship
James Logan High School graduate Melissa Muñoz has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to teach overseas. As a Fulbright scholar, she will be traveling to Malaysia to work with high school students as an English teaching assistant.

Traffic Around Schools
With the District having been forced to eliminate bus transportation as a result of continuing state budget cuts, morning and afternoon traffic around schools was heavier than normal during the first week of school. Parents who drop off and pick up their children are advised to allow extra time in the morning and afternoon.

Memorial services will be scheduled next week for James Logan High School student Jessica Diaz, who died Saturday of an apparent heart attack while exercising. Jessica, 16, was a student in the Puente Program and was to be a junior next fall.

Honors Convocation Thursday at Logan
One of James Logan High School’s proudest traditions, the annual Honors Convocation for seniors, will be celebrated Thursday (June 9). A week ahead of graduation, seniors who have earned scholarships and won other honors will step across the stage at Guy Emanuele Pavilion to receive their awards, starting at 7 p.m.
