New Starting Times, 2006-2007 For Grades 1-5 (and Kindergarten
below)
Consistent with research indicating that earlier starting times
enhance the learning experience for elementary school children,
and as requested by many New Haven Unified School District teachers
and administrators, we are happy to announce that first-through
fifth-grade students will start school at 8:40 a.m., beginning
with the 2006-2007 school year. The school day will end at 2:35
p.m.
Dear Kindergarten Parent:
We have an exciting, challenging year planned for your child and the staff and I would like to welcome you to Pioneer School. We celebrated our 25th anniversary this spring at our Open House in May.
Next fall, all of our kindergarten classes will meet in the morning to provide teachers extra small group reading instructional time with students. This will be accomplished by staggered arrival and departure times of students. For each class, the schedule will be:
Group 1 1/2 of class small group time: 8:35-9:15
Group 2 arrival: 9:15
Whole Class instruction 9:15-10:40
Recess 10:40-11:00
Whole Class instruction 11:00-11:55
Departure of Group 1 11:55
Group 2 1/2 of class small group time: 12:00-12:40
Departure of Group 2 students 12:40
Students who will ride the school bus and morning Kids First
kindergarten program students must attend group 1. We will work
to accommodate your preferences, but please know that the extra
small group time will benefit all members of the class, and is
an opportunity for our teachers to work individually and in small
groups with each child. Therefore, we may not be able to honor
everyone's first choice.
We suggest you send a daily snack with your child that can be
eaten during recess. The teachers request that it be small, healthy
and easily consumed since recess is an important opportunity for
children to interact socially.
We also invite you to stop by the school office to pick up a "Getting Ready for Kindergarten" booklet prepared by our teaching staff. Our office will be open from 8:00 to 4:00 P.M. from June 19 to June 23. We will reopen on August 1. Please mail the section attached to the school office. Our address is 32737 Bel Aire St., Union City, CA 94587.
Class lists will be posted by the end of the day, Monday, August
28 in the front window of the office. Please plan to come to meet
your child's teacher at an open house on Tuesday, August 29 between
2:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M in your child's assigned classroom.

family in August.
