After studying about the
Navajo rugs, we designed our own rugs,
using the program
ClarisWorks for Kids.
In ClarisWorks for Kids,
go to
New Work :: Art Pad ::
Large Triangle Grid
(You can use the Small
Triangle Grid if you are ambitious.)
Use the paintbucket tool
to fill the spaces with different colors.

1. We made a pattern
around the border.
2. We found the middle of
the grid and drew a line there.
That was our line of
symmetry.
3a. We made an abstract
design that was symmetrical.
(It did not represent
anything in particular)
3b. Some people made a
design of an object
(a cactus, a person, an
animal, etc... )
and then filled in the
remaining spaces.
4. Be creative and have
fun.
