At Alvarado Elementary we plan exciting events and activities including spectacular annual events and an afterschool program.

Young Author Faire
Every Spring all the student authors in New Haven USD are invited to participate in the district wide Young Author Faire. Students write and illustrate original stories to be published and read by other students. A number of books are selected from each school to be displayed at the Logan Pavilion during a Young Author Tea for parents and community members. All the children work very hard to publish their best work.

Alvarado Garden Project
We have a wonderful garden for the use of all students at Alvarado. It has continued to grow and expand and is a wonderful extension of the classroom program. It receives contining support from neighboring businesses in the form of donations. Parents wishing to volunteer to work in the garden, should contact the school office.

March Literacy Month

During the entire month of March, we provide a wide variety of activities to promote and celebrate literacy at home and at school. Activities include an Argus Book Buck Awards, author visits, community readers, Dr. Seuss Birthday Breakfast, Bedtime Story Night and Family Literacy Night.

Spirit and Pride Assemblies
All students have a chance to be recognised at the Spirit and Pride assemblies held each month. Students strive to receive the Student of the Month Award or a Perfect Attendence ribbon and recognition. Classes provide skits and poems. The Alvarado Spirit Squad leads the school in cheers.

Talent Show
Our Wildcats are filled with talent! So much so, we had over 50 entries into our talent show this year. Each entry auditioned in front of a panel of judges comprised of teachers and students. Students were selected to perform and entertained our school during two assemblies.

Walk on the Wild Side Walk-a-Thon!

This event kicks off our school year with a combined fundraiser, music and walking. Classes show their spirit with signs and banners. The day ends with an Ice Cream Social that is free to parents and students of Alvarado Elementary.

Red Ribbon Week
During this week, students focus on keeping themselves healthy and Saying No! to drugs. A variety of lessons are taught in the classrooms and the Science Specialist conducts special lessons on healthy habits.

Science Fair
The Science Fair provides opportunities for independent learning and creativity. Students select a topic to investigate and create a display for Open House.

Concerts
Our music program includes singing and beginning recorders. Performers have an opportunity to show their skills at Winter and Spring concerts.
