State of the NHUSD Budget

The ongoing state budget crisis continues to affect public education throughout California, forcing school districts such as New Haven Unified to reduce programs and services. The following video, prepared by Chief Business Officer Akur Varadarajan, explains the financial difficulties that the District is facing.

Kindergarten Enrollment

Under a new state law, admission ages are changing for children entering kindergarten. Please see the attachment for information about enrolling children for kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year.

District Gets High Marks on Parent Survey

UNION CITY (Thursday, May 17, 2012) – The vast majority of nearly 1,000 parents who responded to an electronic survey say the New Haven Unified School District meets their children’s academic and social needs, provides a safe learning environment, practices equity and communicates effectively. And the District’s marks in virtually every area have improved – sometimes dramatically so – in comparison to a similar survey taken in 2010.

Board of Education Briefs: May 15, 2012

The Board of Education on Tuesday night approved a plan to designate the District’s Independent Study Program as its own school, to be located on the campus of the New Haven Adult School.

Board of Education Briefs: April 17, 2012

Todd Szyslowski, a special education teacher for preschool students at the Cabello Student Support Center, has been selected as the New Haven Unified School District’s Teacher of the Year, it was announced during the Board of Education meeting Tuesday night. Celia Raygoza, a New Haven employee for more than 40 years and the “matriarch” of the District’s Migrant Education program, was named Classified Employee of the Year.
